A very incorrect assumption, but it probably would have done better critically if I was right. Only catch is, it's not up to Kable to survive, he, along with all other participants in the broadcast death-match, have had their brains altered by billionaire genius Ken Castle Michael C.
Hall - Dexter so that they can be remotely controlled by gamers from all across the world. Castle has also performed his nefarious works on others, whom are paid handsomely to be operated by people in a sadistic virtual environment not unlike The Sims.
So it's all very interesting and confusing, and makes for a fresh film, but in reality, Kable killing in a simulated warzone people would have made a great Death Race-ish action movie in and of itself; Nika and the way she is used in "Society" would have made a great sci-fi drama all by its lonesome; and the barely-there character of Simon could easily have gone solo in a film where he controls real-life people like a game.
Instead these three worlds are all meshed together and it doesn't work as well as it could have. Not to say I don't like Gamer, it's quite a bit better and intellectual than I'd envisioned it after initially viewing the trailer in my Y12 Media Class.
Problematic is the fact that most of this intellect goes towards the social commentary of how sick we are that we take pleasure in violence in the media, when the whole marketing campaign ran to sell the film as an entertaining gun-ridden bloodbath.
And for the most part that's exactly what it is. Neveldine and Taylor the kids behind Crank, Crank: High Voltage and to some extent Pathology still hold onto some of their technogeek wiles and try to insert them into Gamer, which unfortunately can't have the same effect as they did in their earlier, mor light-hearted work.
A bit of the old Ultraviolence never goes astray in my books, and though I most certainly did enjoy Gamer, it's multi faceted film styles have all been done better elsewhere.

Gamer is a satirical dystopian science fiction that can satisfy all the video gamers that watch it. The film offers great special effects, lots of actions and buckets of blood and gore.
However, it could really use some improvement in acting. I love how futuristic the film is, though the messages are of left wing agendas.

It needed a rewrite. Some scenes were way over the top. On the positive, there were some good performances in the film.
Gerard Butler was very good in the leading role. Hall is a great villain in the film. Logan Lerman was ok in his supporting role, but wish he had more screen time.
Ludacris's character reminded me of Ice T's character from the movie Johnny Kneumonic. Also the music in the film was really good.
Despite the flaws, the film is still entertaining. I thought it is better than both of the Crank films.

They dont let the fight scenes be epic its like they are trying to not lose your attention and try to be flashy as possible.
The acting was well okay at best. The tone just really didnt sit well just trying to make it as ugly as possible with the people controlling cable and the wife.
How this movie was portrayed was some duo working together to stop the villain but then he appears for like 3 minutes then disappears until the very last minute of the movie.
No real character development. The main character didnt even care for the main villian and was like a last minute slap like hey this movie has a plot.
Its not the worst thing ive seen it is what it is. A raunchy boring terrible paced movie. A very cool action movie, filmed as if it were 3D originally, even though the budget didn't allow it to be filmed in actual 3D.
Later on, it was converted from 2D to 3D, so the depth effects work well throughout the movie, but some parts of the scenes, like people, sometimes look like flat cutouts.
Maybe I'm over-analyzing as the film is definitely better in 3D. It's a keeper! I remember seeing this in 2D about 2 years ago, and thought it was OK good story line, but a bit tacky.

The scene cuts and path the story took was broken, confusing, and otherwise unprofessionally done, skipping around from nudity to gore and back again for literally no reason except to be gratuitous and get the movie an R rating.
The entire movie felt more rushed than Game of Thrones and maybe is the budget had allowed for another hour of gore and nudity they may have had time to put together a filled out, decent story.
Fortunately for every watching the movie the torture didn't last for another hour. One person found this helpful. Title isn't met as an insult I just think it's the most important thing to know.

She isn't relevant to Kable's arch until now and interlacing these scenes with the gritty slayer scene's doesn't provide any context to what's happening.
Now you can show what she's doing because we understand why we should care. Now show that scene with the adoption agency guy whose office is way to big for just one guy btw to establish that she doesn't have Kable's kid with her, then show the scene where Kable breaks into society and gets her out.
Cut out all the shots with that fat guy controlling her up until the last one when "tech support" comes in because none of them are relevant other than being a cheap gag and you only need the one to get the point across and it works better after we already know what he was doing with her.
Everything plays out as it did past this point minus the scene with 17 yr old going to prison because that 17 yr old facing prison time is not relevant to Kable.

This film is one of the kind people may love or loath completely, depending on which side they're on. IMO I find it a little distopic Sci-Fi gem, being all based on the freaky question: What if virtual reality could substitute the actual one we live in or,even worse, was manipulated by a mean yet powerful despot-like bloke?
As for the item itself,I can say this dvd is brilliant, featuring a very good picture and sound quality as well as very accomplished performances by the cast.
One of Gerard Butler's best efforts and a film I recommend to you. Not the greatest of films, but for a couple of hours of a mindless action packed escapism extravaganza with non stop bullets, explosions and bodies flying through the air it's perfect to while away a night in with a takeaway.
