Er ist in meinen Augen leider nur stumpf, menschenverachtend und wirkt vor allem unrealistisch auf mich. So is it worth a watch? If you have an interest in hardcore punk or the lifestyles of people that you probably wouldn't want to interact with for real, then the answer is likely to be yes.
It also feels quite a unique film; it didn't really remind me of any others as I was watching it. It is funny in places but not in a pleasant way.
The music that's featured in the film is a pretty good representation of the sort that I personally feel killed off punk in the 80s, not exactly commercial but it fits the vibe of the film well.
You might want a shower after watching it though. Few films surprise and shock me. This has to be number Tartan was hiding a little gem and not many films get grittier, dirty, raw or loud as this one.
Maybe Trainspotting, but again thats not a bad film to be compared to. Its made its way onto my 'favourites' pile with the music thats played silently in the background and loudly live by the Feminists.

Trotzdem fehlt mir bei Ex Drummer die Substanz, von der etwa Trainspotting - ebenfalls ein Sozialdrama - deutlich mehr zu bieten hat.
Gesehen haben kann man Mortiers Film aber trotzdem mal, vorausgesetzt, man hat in Sachen Ekel eine hohe Toleranzgrenze und vermag sich auf filmische Werke weit abseits des Mainstreams einzulassen.

Each member of the band must have a handicap. The singer has a lisp and lives on the ceiling of his apartment. The lisp was lost on me as I don't speak the language, but it is apparently so bad it's reached the level of a handicap.
The bass player has a debilitating mother complex, keeps his father in a straight jacket strapped to a bed in his attic, and he's got a stiff right arm.
The guitar player is deaf and addicted to crack. The drummer's handicap is that he can't play drums The band is only going to play one gig, a battle of the bands, and then breakup.
There isn't much of a story to follow. We're simply treated to the machinations of this motley crew as they prepare for the concert and their lives crumble around them.
