I was surprised when I redeemed the digital copy on Vudu and I only got the HD version, even though the UHD digital copy is also available for purchase.
And indeed the small print on the insert with the code says that the code is good for one HD copy. It's disappointing that the included digital code only redeems HD.
Especially since the UHD digital copy seems to be available. I grew up watching this movie as a kid when it first came out in 85 and even today I love watching this movie yet the Video and Audio quality is extremely poor vs.
The film is very grainy with the audio going up and down in places that it shouldn't be. If you don't mind subpar quality of playback from this one title from Amazon Prime, then go for it as you will Love the movie from beginning to end but if you hate movies that get a " Poor " conversion quality then stay away from this one title from Amazon Prime Video and either buy the Blu-Ray or DVD from Amazon and watch it in better picture quality than what Amazon Prime Video offers!
I was super excited for this release, as the movie was caught up in legalities, unable to ever be remastered.
Being ultra HD, I was even more excited. The picture quality is marginally improved. The sound and proper aspect ratio change is the biggest improvement.
However, some of the audio shifting and volumes are strange. The quality is very much improved, just sounds funky in certain parts.
My real complaint is in the beginning before the disc menu, I sat for almost 5 minutes with some sort of "blue screen of death" that was showing a disclaimer of some sort in every language known to man since the caveman era with hieroglyphics and such.
After it passed, the Paramount logo appeared. Then, a selection of language to choose. I've never encountered such a thing in my life. Overall, this is worth the purchase.
The whole thing just feels like a rush job to pump up the audience for the next movie. Now this movie may have come out in but with release of the 4K version one could ask Is there a difference?
Dolby Atmos really shines in the audio department of this 4K release!! For those who have a dedicated home theater and your looking for a demo disk to show off your system this movie is highly recommended!!
I love this movie because I love jet fighters, and the flying scenes here are just amazing eye candy. This review is for the 4K DVD. I give it 3 stars because the video is too grainy for me.
Everything else is great: sound, color saturation, etc. I am not technically savvy about video transfers, I am just giving my subjective impressions.
If, like me, you dislike scenes that look like been watched through a mild sandstorm, then this 4K transfer will not be enjoyable. Stick to the blu ray version, which to me looks way better, except for the color saturation, which is slightly superior in 4K.
Picture is pretty great. Movie is pretty sharp in most scenes. Quite a bit of noise in the darker scenes.
Not soft. I have a 5. I did not notice a lot of sound coming from the ceiling. I expected more overhead sound from the flybys.
The mix did sound better; it was more spacious than the 6. I'm really glad I bought it. A real upgrade over the Blu-Ray.
